A Unified Hudson

When emotions get high and tempers flare, as they did with the Hudson Inclusive Park (HIP) over the past few months, it makes it more difficult to stay focused and accomplish your goal. I want to applaud the current City Council, the Parks Board, and the HIP group for pivoting as quickly as they did when faced with the loss of their federal funding. This will be a great addition to the Hudson parks.

With the heightened urgency due to the recent funding shift, the community conversations have gotten contentious seemingly dividing neighbors over what should be a great unifying accomplishment for Hudson. I had the privilege of attending a Parks Board meeting and was able to watch recordings of multiple Council meetings. In general, these meetings have been a stark contrast to the firestorm that was seen on the Facebook sites. Regardless of where you land on which location you feel could be the best, I hope we can all agree that the HIP is going to be a great win for our community.

If you've seen my Facebook banner picture, you’ll see a bunch of people holding a rope to help pull down a tree. What’s beautiful about it is that none of us could do it on our own, we all needed one another, and what’s even better is there are even more people not pictured with saws, wedges, and axes all working in unison to accomplish something difficult. That’s how I see the Hudson community and Hudson City Council.

As your councilman, I promise to do my part to listen to your thoughts, make sure your ideas are heard, your needs are met, and work with the other council members to make sure difficult things are done well. I will not feed into the noise online, but I will post facts and links that will keep the community informed as decisions are being made. This Is Not About Me it’s about effectively moving Hudson forward.
