We're In This Together

I’ve spent most of my adult weekends serving others—whether through coaching various sports, offering financial counseling, landscaping, or even felling trees. The list continues to grow, but one thing remains constant: these opportunities have opened doors for me to learn new skills and connect with some truly amazing people.

This past weekend, I had the great fortune of experiencing something new that really struck a chord with me. I had heard about an incredible sports inclusion program during city council and park board meetings while the city was working through the site selection for the inclusive playground. This past Saturday, I had the privilege of serving as a buddy/coach with Soccer4All, a program for players ages 4–25 with physical and/or mental disabilities.

This fantastic program has three primary goals:

1.     Get active

2.     Make friends

3.     Have fun

It also gives parents the chance to enjoy watching their children participate while building friendships of their own. (For more information: Soccer4All.)

While Saturday’s experience was wonderful on its own, what really brought it full circle was something that happened the following morning. While serving at church on Sunday, I saw two children proudly wearing Soccer4All shirts. It reminded me that, while our community can feel large at times, it’s actually very close-knit. We’re bound to continue crossing paths long after this political season ends.

As contentious as elections can become, it’s critical to remember that we’re all on the same team—working to make Hudson the best it can be.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more about my positions on Hudson-specific topics. But before diving into policy, I just wanted to offer a reminder: we’re in this together.
